Saturation, tint, and tone

Today we were told to experiment with a range of colours of our choice, but it needed to be limited to three. I chose purple, yellow, and orange.

We were taught about saturation, tint, and tone. Here are my colours when fully saturated.

Here they are tinted.

And here they are toned.

After this, we were told to experiment by added the colours to one another to see what is complimentary.

First I tried with the saturated colours. I'm particularly happy with they way these look.

Here are the tinted colours, and I think these also look great.

The toned colours are as pleasing, but it still works.

Here I tried mixing the three types of colour together. In some cases, such as the ones shown here, it worked very well. Though through my experimentation I found that it is more difficult to compliment a toned colour with a tinted colour, and that it's better to mix them with saturated colours for the best looking result.
